We are seeking highly motivated Biology/Biochemistry/Biomedicine students with a background in immunology for MSc projects on Vγ9Vδ2 T cells.
Vγ9Vδ2 T cells are so-called non-conventional T-cells. They massively expand in infectious diseases such as Malaria and exert anti-tumor effects upon activation by host or microbial metabolites (Phosphoantigens). The aim of our studies is to understand the molecular basis of their activation by phosphoantigens and the roles of butyrophilins (BTNs) in this activation aiming to harness these cells for therapeutic use. To this end we exploit methods in cellular, molecular immunology and genetics of Vγ9Vδ2 T cells in different species as recently published.
Molecular basis of TCR-mediated stimulation by phosphoantigens. Methods: Gene-knock out and expression in cell lines, work with primary human cells and cell lines, FACS, protein expression and purification.
Immune modulation by butyrophilins. Methods: Cellular immunology. Protein expression and purification. FACS, Generation and characterization of of monoclonal antibodies.
